About Us
Marpex Inc. is very small, and very rich.
Marpex Inc. is staffed by one person full time, with occasional part time inputs from others.
Fortified by the presence of God, encouragement of family and the prayers and good wishes of a host of former students and academic colleagues, Marpex is rich in creativity, gratitude, and enjoyment of its tasks. The firm is also rich in ambition, daring to think that it can improve the nature of search and research in the face of formidable, well-established competition.
Rich in money? Not now, but maybe some day.
Marpex Inc. was incorporated in Ontario, Canada in 1976. In 1992, Marpex was established as an Ohio S-corp based in Steubenville, Ohio. From its inception Marpex has focused on computational linguistic solutions. The company's first search engine, named FindIt, was developed in 1985 for Reteaco Inc. of Willowdale, Ontario. FindIt was used by Reteaco to create a wide variety of government and private enterprise databases on CD-ROMs. Marpex Inc. obtained rights to FindIt for the religious market, and engaged in direct and sub-contract sales of biblical databases until about 1995. Since 1994 Marpex Inc. has focused on research. It has gained one patent, and has a second patent pending.
Douglas Lowry is the founder and president of Marpex Inc. He holds a Ph.D. from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 1975 to 1992 he was a Clerk of General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. During the same period, he was involved in a variety of high tech businesses -- founding President of Digital Video Systems, Chief Scientist and later Chairman of the Board of Reteaco Inc., and President of Marpex Inc. In 1989-90 and continuously from 1993 he taught full time in the Department of Accounting and Business at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. At the beginning of 2005 he retired from his position as Professor of Business and Marketing, in order to work full time on expanding the scale of the Words Close Together engine so that it may compete directly among the major search engines.

One other person plays a key role in daily smoothing the way and making this whole enterprise possible. She does not want to be mentioned here. Okay. [Editor's note: I pass along to you Denzel Washington's insight about a happy marriage ... Do what your wife tells you.]
Since 1994 six major projects have dominated the research efforts of Marpex Inc.
