Classic English Books -- Downloads and DVD

All of us who love classic literature are highly indebted to the magnificent work done over the years by Project Gutenberg.

A collection of over 14,000 Project Gutenberg books (non-copyright, English) has been indexed and set up for use with the Words Close Together search engine. The books are free. As for the search capability that has been added, try it out for free. The next time you download, you may pay whatever the search capability is worth to you. You can read these books and find meaningful combinations of words. Every word of every single book is searchable, with results in superbly relevant order. You may download up to ten books at a time that you select. Alternatively, you can order the entire collection on a DVD-ROM.

It is important that you have the latest version of the WCT Reader and the "how to" guide for using it. This search engine is steadily evolving and improving; we can support you only if you have the latest and best. To encourage you to download the newest monthly installation pack, we include a collection by a different author, plus a featured book of the month.

The WCT Reader and the monthly sample packs are totally free. Full illustrated instructions on how to download are available.

Download individual books:

Over 14,000 downloadable books are hosted on a companion web site, WCTSE.com (short for Words Close Together Search Engine). Books are grouped by the first letter of the authors' last names. Choose up to ten books at a time. (The system will charge you for excess books.) The ten book limit is to reduce the amount of work required by the server to package and download your selection.

If you do not know an author's name or if multiple authors were involved, use the search feature within the Index Lite by Author and Title. Example: Looking for who wrote The Wind in the Willows? Type the words wind willows in the search box, press Enter or click on Search. Click on the Expand button at the left to see detail.

The first time you add books to your shopping cart, you will be asked to register and provide your email address and your state. Our privacy policy is simple: Your email address will not be given to anyone for any reason (apart from a court order). Make up a password so that you may return to your account to repeat earlier downloads or to choose more sets of books.

All Project Gutenberg books are free, and may be freely shared with other people. The search engine is provided by a private corporation, Marpex Inc. of Steubenville, Ohio. You are invited to pay whatever the search is worth to you, in order to encourage further development of the search capability. The shopping cart inserts a suggestion of two dollars per download, but you may change that number to anything you want. (Yes, zero does work.) *

* Editorial comment: There is an attitude common in our society that all information should be free. The logical implication is that information workers should work without pay. If that is where you are coming from, please reflect on President's Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863. Slavery was not a good idea.

Purchase the DVD-ROM version:

The entire collection of over 14,000 books is available for purchase at $29 for the first DVD-ROM and $25 for additional copies within the United States and Canada. This includes insured priority post shipping. The price per book works out to one fifth of a cent, or one thousand books for the price of one book on the best known ebook readers.

The DVD contains the 14,000 books. The latest version of the WCT Reader must be downloaded from this web site. This way, your DVD does not quickly go out of date.
